Irish Crochet Lace
Irish Crochet lace making started as a cottage industry after the famine of the 1840's. It was a way to give families an added income and it became a valuable commodity, and to this present day, worn by royalty and very beautiful.
I'm a novice, and although I live in Ireland, I don't know anybody else making lace. My resources are mainly the internet, where I found lace makers in Russia, Peru,Columbia and the Us turning out beautiful art and reinventing lace as a modern fashion statement.
I'm taking you on my journey.
I'm afraid it'll be warts and all, and I'll show you my mistakes and failures sa well as my triumphs.
My main purpose is to encourage other people to start making Irish Lace.

Why Irish crochet lace?
I can only try to explain my attraction to this lace as an artform.
With very basic materials, it's possible to express the exuberance and joy found in a flower garden. It isn't tidy or regimented,. It's individualistic, free style and no 2 people can recreate an exact copy of any work. It's inventive and there really are no rules. I know some people would like to have time stand still and only reproduce victorian work, but I feel that crochet lace has so much more to offer in the 21st century.
I also think that there will be a backlash to cheaply produced clothes made in a sweatshop. After all, lace can last centuries and Irish Crochet lace, because it's made with 100% cotton, can be washed in a domestic washing machine.
I would also like to thank Kate Middleton, her wedding dress brought Irish lace back to the forefront and I'm sure many more brides will want a lovely lace dress.
